New Year’s Eve is statistically the most dangerous night of the year for drunk driving. During the 2023 New Year’s Day holiday period, 34% of traffic fatalities involved an alcohol-impaired driver, and drunk driving-related deaths spike 89% above baseline levels on New Year’s Day, making it the most dangerous holiday of the year for impaired driving. That is exactly why we launched the “Don’t Drink and Drive, California” campaign this past New Year’s Eve, offering free Uber rides to eligible residents across the state to help ensure that everyone celebrating made it home safely.

The campaign has now concluded, but the commitment behind it has not. Setareh Law has recovered over $250 million for injured Californians and brings more than 60 years of combined experience fighting for accident victims across the state. We launched this campaign as Beverly Hills personal injury attorneys who see firsthand what impaired driving does to families, and we wanted to do something real about it. Here is a look at what the campaign accomplished.

The Campaign at a Glance

More than 700 Uber ride vouchers were funded and made available to California residents on New Year’s Eve 2025. A dedicated campaign landing page allowed eligible users to claim a ride, and safety-first messaging was distributed across social platforms to drive awareness before and during the holiday. The response from the public exceeded expectations, with over 4,500 user signups and more than 200 rides used throughout the evening.

One of the most meaningful outcomes came out of Kern County. Local ABC affiliate 23ABC reported that on New Year’s Eve, Bakersfield recorded just one DUI arrest during a saturation patrol and zero fatal DUI crashes, and the outlet cited Setareh Law’s free Uber ride campaign as a contributing factor. Bakersfield ranked fourth statewide in signups. While a single campaign cannot eliminate impaired driving, those numbers tell a story that matters.

California Took Notice

News travels fast when the story is worth telling, and media outlets across California covered this one extensively. The campaign earned 33 pieces of coverage, including 6 television segments from some of the state’s most-watched stations. Coverage included:

Every article shared meant more people knew about the vouchers, and more people made it home safely.

Our Community Responded

The safety message did not just reach people through news outlets. Social media users across California shared the campaign in their own words, encouraging friends and family to take advantage of the free rides. The campaign generated over 3,400 social media engagements, and the comments reflected something more than awareness. People genuinely cared. Phrases like “no excuse for drinking and driving” and “let’s all be here tomorrow” spread organically because the message resonated. When a campaign moves people enough to amplify it on their own, that is when it becomes something real.

The response also caught the attention of TV producers and journalists across the state, resulting in back-to-back interview requests from December 31 through January 1. The story sold itself because the purpose behind it was genuine.
